A unique opportunity for Aotearoa’s finest sculptors
Now we know that in uncertain times like this, time seems to stand still – but for artists, creativity doesn’t stop, right? So we’re forging ahead, planning the 2022 Richard T Nelson Awards for Sculpture.
The Richard T Nelson Awards for Sculpture recognise excellence in small-scale sculpture and provide rare opportunities for New Zealand sculptors.
The awards are valued at a total of $20,000 with a premier prize of $15,000, and five highly commended prizes of $1,000 each.
The 2021 finalists exhibited at the 2021 NZ Art Show, a highlight of the show, demonstrating a diverse range of creative talent and outstanding craftmanship.
APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN AND ARE DUE TO CLOSE NOVEMBER 30. GET YOUR APPLICATION IN EARLY.

Application Fees
Due to your feedback, we have reduced the application fee.
- $30 per artwork you wish to submit
- Limit of two artworks
Application fees are non-refundable.
Exhibition Fees
We are introducing fees for all finalists who exhibit in the awards exhibition. Exhibition fees are non-refundable.
- $80 if you are selected to exhibit one artwork
- $120 if you are selected to exhibit two artworks
