I am an oil painter living in Wellington, New Zealand. I take inspiration from the native wildlife and vegetation of New Zealand and specialize in painting birds, animals and landscapes. I enjoy walking in the bush and try to capture some of the magic I feel in my paintings.
I am largely self-taught and have expanded my knowledge through artist workshops, studying and experimenting. Over time I have developed my own style and technique in oils. I use an oil medium to create different effects and draw into, scrape and shape the paint with various tools to reveal the layers below. Expressing myself is often as much about applying the paint as it is removing it. I enjoy using thinly glazed layers that reveal some of the luminosity of the first layer of paint.
I am an active member of the Khandallah Art Group and the New Zealand Academy of Fine Art, my work is exhibited at various galleries and art shows. I have work held in private collections throughout New Zealand and internationally.
Animals are a favourite subject with New Zealand bird life featuring predominantly. The ever changing skies over Wellington also inspire me, and in many of my landscapes the sky takes up most of the canvas.
