Check out my Facebook page Heather Wilson artist) to see my artshow video. It really shows the texture and colour in my work. I had such a happy carefree kiwi childhood and I find a lot of my inspiration for my work is drawn from those memories. My art also explores aspects of iconic New Zealand scenery and symbolism connected with my beloved geometric patterns from the 1970s. My work is contemporary. I would describe it as an explosion of bold strong colour and texture, which is my distinctive trademark. I use acrylic and mixed media on canvas and board with resin effects.
Many people are interested to find out I have a double degree in Nutrition and Food Science from Otago University. After several years in the corporate world I decided to escape the daily grind and follow my dreams and I’m now a full-time professional artist. I’ve been living in beautiful Hawkes Bay for 12 years after growing up in Lower Hutt, Wellington. I’m inspired by growing up in the late 60’s and 70’s. My work often has a retro vibe. I’m also inspired by Gio-Ponti, Bisazza tiles, Yayoi Ku-Sama, Comme des Garcons, Andy Wahol and Piet (Mondrian).
