Mandy Rodger is an abstract painter. Her practice explores totality and the idea that nothing stands by itself.
Mandy completed the 4 year painting program at Browne School of Art, Auckland. She was a double finalist in the 2019 National Contemporary Art Awards and her paintings were exhibited in the Waikato Museum. Her work has also been exhibited at the BSA Gallery and the Grey Place Gallery in Auckland.
Each painting is an improvisation, a response to the forms and marks on the canvas. They are a recognition that, while we can look back, we can only move forward. As the making of a painting progresses, each gestural mark and colour is invariably altered by its intrinsic relationship to those that come both before and after. There is a sense of impermanence and change.
