Melissa Boardman

Melissa Boardman is a illustrator specialising in New Zealand's native birds, her bold and modern illustration style has gained her a following with local art and bird lovers. Melissa spends a lot of time at Zealandia Ecosanctuary gathering inspiration and taking photographs for reference for her work. She also volunteers her time monitoring species and donates her photographs for Zealandia to raise awareness about their species and conservation work being undertaken in the sanctuary.

Melissa is truly passionate about our native birds and is an advocate for the rarer and lesser known species, she chooses not to overlook the rarer birds but highlight and embrace them, both in her art and on social media. Melissa love nothing more than being immersed in nature, and spends as much time as she can surrounded by native birds and birdsong. She work from her home-studio in Wilton, where she reaps the benefits of living close to both Zealandia and Otari-Wilton's Bush, two amazing nature reserves. Her home is frequented by native birds, which provides her with an abundance of inspiration for her next illustration.

in 2019 Melissa exhibited in a solo exhibition 'Nestled' at Zealandia Ecosanctuary and in a group show 'Bringing Back the Birds' at the Bowen House Exhibition Space, Parliament.
