Miriam Ruberl

Rotorua , Bay of Plenty

Miriam's art making is founded in materials and process, often exploring everyday / domestic materials in uncustommary ways and combinations, always with a view to the materials speaking for themselves about their composition, qualities and responses to processes.

Miriam spends considerable time with a material producing a large body of work as a result.

Over the past 3 years she has been working with clays and pigments harvested on the volcanic plateau in the Rotorua area, as well as her long term fascination with Chinese or Sumi ink. Inevitably, discrete materials are married to produce unusual and fascinating effects, each telling stories of their own.

Miriam is committed to the idea that "the creative act is not performed by the artist alone; the spectator brings the work in contact with the external world by deciphering and interpreting its inner qualifications and thus adds his/her contribution to the creative act".

Miriam has an extensive history of exhibition participation, holds an Advanced Diploma in Art and Creativity, and her works form part of numerous collections in New Zealand and abroad.

More biographical and exhibition information, as well as well as more extensive examples of her work can be found at or by contacting her directly
