The Artist as a documenter is a notion that has threaded itself through my artwork for years. These latest pieces pay homage to early botanical illustrators and landscape painters whose work was to document newly discovered lands and their flora. I present these age old botanical motifs afresh. In one series flora emerges and fades again through abstract marks, rich texture and luscious colour, in another series tiny fern leaves take the place of trees amidst abstract landscapes.
The work itself is purely paint but my process involves photography and making my own custom stencils.
I studied fine art and photography and graduated from Massey Univeristy with a BDes (Hons). I have exhibited at the NZ Art show previously and also at other galleries and shows around New Zealand. I live in Wellington.
