ASB stands behind the NZ Art Show as it launches the NZ Art Show 2020 online

With the support of leading sponsor ASB, the team behind the NZ Art Show are excited to announce that in the spirit of kiwi creativity and innovation, they are taking the show online this year – an initiative in response to the cancellation of their annual Wellington event over Queen’s Birthday, due to COVID-19.

“ASB has been a long-time supporter of the arts in New Zealand, including as sponsor of the NZ Art Show for 17 years,” says ASB head of community and sponsorship Mark Graham.

“We’re excited that the show will still be held this year and applaud the NZ Art team for their determination to support the arts community and bring the event online. This approach to finding an innovative solution sits well with ASB and we’re really pleased to be able to support the show in this way.”

Many artists rely on the NZ Art Show as their main source of income and Carla Russell, Executive Director, says the team are dedicated to supporting them through this, whilst doing all they can to ensure the NZ Art Show brand stays alive and well.

“The selection process had just taken place when we had to make the decision to cancel the show in Wellington, we had to think on our feet and were determined to support the artists and to continue to deliver the NZ Art Show albeit a different format”

The online gallery launches on May 1st and will deliver a dynamic online art experience; offering the opportunity to browse and purchase the works that were to be exhibited at the show, but instead from the comfort and safety of your own home.  All artists exhibiting online are endorsed by the NZ Art Show as selectees of this year’s original show, so purchasers can buy with confidence knowing the works are quality, original and affordable.

“ASB have shown us nothing but support since 2004 and we are over the moon that their support has not waivered at this time. Like the NZ Art Show, ASB will have a sneak preview of the show” says Carla.

“We want to give confidence to our artists, art buyers, supporters and sponsors that we will uphold the reputation of the NZ Art Show and keep the brand alive.  We are delighted to offer a virtual show to the public, whilst supporting the artists when they need it most. The arts community needs everyone to rally around them, and this is the perfect way to be able to help – we know art brings joy so what better time to purchase a piece for your home”

The NZ Art Show online gallery will be open from May 1st, and will continue until the end of 2020.  There will be up to 200 artists featuring on the site, offering a diverse range of styles, mediums, and sizes.  Purchasers will liaise directly with the artists, arranging payment and shipping offline.

Since 2004 the NZ Art Show has supported more than 4,000 artists, awarded more than $140,000 and have sold more than 23,000 works of art generating more than $14 million – each year an outstanding show is organised and the team are proud of what they do for artists and the art loving community.   Therefore, it’s imperative that this support continues and that the arts community stays connected and positive during this time, to help bridge the gap until the 2021 show.

The NZ Art Show would like to sincerely thank their leading sponsor ASB, along with other sponsors Forsyth Barr, Connected Accountants, Signature Promotions, MSH Consulting, Bakertilly Staples Rodway, QMS Media and all of the Friends of the show, for helping to get this exciting and innovative initiative off the ground.
