As the largest and most successful sale of original New Zealand art, the NZ Art Show is the best platform for artists to get their art in front of thousands of art lovers. All New Zealand artists are invited to apply to be a part of this dynamic and inspirational event.

A wide range of people attend the show and in order to meet their expectations the show delivers a dynamic and progressive experience that represents a diverse range of artworks to suit all tastes, styles and budgets.

Application process

  • Get Organised

    • Read the artist information and the guide for artists
    • Decide what category suits you best—SAW or SOLO
  • Prepare application

    • At least 5 x jpeg images of your current work- must be sized around 600KB to 1MB.
    • An artist statement
    • Application fee – $30
  • Apply

    • Application fee—$30 payable via the online form
    • Applications are open from 1 November 2019 to 29 February 2020
  • Selection

    • Your application will be reviewed by a panel
    • Results will be emailed to you
  • Invoices & Resources

    • Selected artists will be invoiced for the exhibition fees
    • Show resources for artists will be provided
  • Get your art ready

How the show works

  • All art is for sale through NZ Art Show: artists receive payment after the show
  • Cash-n-carry: as an artwork sells it is taken to the sales area and taken away by its new owner
  • The sold piece is replaced by another artwork by the same artist, held in a storage area
  • Large sculptures which cannot be moved easily and artwork by award finalists remain in place until the end of the show
  • NZ Art Show retains 25% commission from each sale
  • There are a limited number of spaces available

How much does it cost

  • Application fee: $30—non-refundable
  • Exhibition fees: there are varying exhibition costs for all selected SAW and SOLO artists—details of costs are in the next section. Artists will be invoiced when they get selected
  • Variable costs: selected artists will have other costs to consider, like freight, wrapping materials, transport, and accommodation
  • Fees are non-refundable, so please ensure your artworks comply with our terms and conditions

All artists—important

  • Size limit: your artwork must be no larger than the panels and/or plinth you have selected. If your works do not fit this size criteria please contact the Artist Liaison to discuss other options that might be available
  • Each panel measures 1.2m(w) by 2.3m (h)
  • Plinths measure approx. 1m (h) x 60cm x 60cm top

  • Large sculptures must be approved by the NZ Art Show to ensure they meet the health and safety standards. These works must be delivered to the venue and installed by the artist and, after the show, collected by the artist who must also organise delivery to new owner.
  • Artists will be invoiced once selection is confirmed
  • Hanging system—a velcro hanging system is used at the show. SAW artists can either make their own or they can be purchased or hired from the NZ Art Show
  • All artists are invoiced their exhibition fees after the selection process. Participation is not confirmed until the invoice is paid, however we do allow for this invoice to be paid off in instalments

Single artist wall (SAW)

Unlimited number of artworks

  • You manage your space and your art

  • You are on-site for the duration of the show
  • As your art sells you replace with stock from your designated storage area
  • A wonderful opportunity for you to meet and promote your work to an enthusiastic audience
  • You get to attend the gala evening—THE ART PARTY OF THE YEAR

SAW exhibition fees

Four options

  • 2 panels measuring 2.4 (w) x 2.3 (h) in total—$600
  • 3 panels measuring 3.6 (w) x 2.3 (h) in total—$850
  • 4 panels measuring 4.8 (w) x 2.3 (h) in total—$1100 (maximum)
  • 3D artists: discuss your requirements with the Artist Liaison—artists@artshow.co.nz

SAW added extras

  • Assistant pass—$100. You may bring ONE person to help over the show. Your assistant attends the gala evening and show days
  • Plinth—for promotional material (optional)—$60. You may supply your own but this must be approved by NZ Art Show

Solo panel (SOLO)

Up to 6 artworks in total

  • NZ Art Show manages your space and art: you are not an on-site exhibitor
  • You are permitted 6 artworks in total in your exhibition space

  • Artworks that do not fit in your space in the initial hang will be stored. Once an artwork sells, NZ Art Show staff will replace it with work from your storage area.
  • You have complimentary entry to any one of the show days—gala evening not included
  • If you attend the show you may not attend to your space and/or art

SOLO exhibition fees

Three options

  • 1 panel measuring 1.2m (w) by 2.3m (h) in total—$150 (minimum)
  • 2 panels measuring 2.4 (w) by 2.3m (h) in total—$300 (maximum)
  • 3D artworks (no wall space required):
  • Plinths = $60 each / minimum = 2, maximum = 5
  • Large free-standing sculptures—$50 each
