The NZ Art Show: a story worth sharing
The NZ Art Show celebrates New Zealand art and its artists.
There’s a wealth of creative talent in Aotearoa and our vision is for every Kiwi to own a piece of New Zealand art… and we are delighted with the thousands of art lovers embracing quality original art created here at home.
The NZ Art Show tells New Zealand’s story through the works of our numerous and gifted artists.
About us… 16 years of exhibiting NZ art…
Since it began in 2004, the NZ Art Show has delighted New Zealanders with its expansive range of art.
The show, the first and most reputable of its kind, makes it easy for any New Zealander to own a piece of original art: the artworks are contemporary, accessible, collectible, and most importantly, affordable. The NZ Art Show is proud to represent a multitude of artists and to be a true representative of New Zealand’s diverse and unique artistic community.
As leaders in our field, we have been a finalist twice in the Wellington Gold Awards, and Executive Director Carla Russell was also a finalist for Wellingtonian of the Year, Arts Category.
In its 16 years of operation, the NZ Art Show has proven to be a substantial contributor to New Zealand’s art scene, and the following statistics illustrate the show’s significance.
- $13 million of art sold
- 22,000 artworks sold
- 4,000 NZ artists represented
- $115,000 presented to artists through award programmes
The 2019 NZ Art Show
Nearly 200 artists have been selected for the show: 60 are brand new and promise fresh new talent. A broad range of media and styles will be represented and will include glass, bronze, ceramic and wood sculptures, photographic and original prints, and oil, acrylic, and watercolour paintings. A range of non-conventional media will also be exhibited including feather art, pyrography and encaustic.
An art collectors delight
The 2019 NZ Art Show is promising to be an art collector’s delight with 15 finalists in the running for the RT Nelson Emerging Artist Awards which offer four prizes of $2,500. These artists are currently studying at, or have recently graduated from a New Zealand art school.
Awarding the artists
A total of $14,500 in art awards is available to participating artists. In addition to the RT Nelson Emerging Artist Award we are proud to offer two more awards:
The People’s Choice Art Award sponsored by Brendan Foot Supersite: 10 finalists will compete for the $3,000 prize. The winner is decided by the attending public who vote over the course of the weekend.
Signature Promotions Art Award: 2 awards totalling $1,500 are available to participating on-site artists.

What people are saying about us…
“We’re impressed by how the event bridges emerging talent with the NZ public, not just art collectors.”
“A highlight in our calendar every year. Fantastic selection of emerging NZ talent and extremely well organised. I recommend having a look but be prepared to fall in love with an artwork (or two)”
“Thanks to the NZ Art Show for your support and for providing such a wonderful platform for my art – I didn’t want the weekend to end!”
“My friend came down from Napier to see my art, and even though I had sold out by the time she got there, she spent 4.5 hours at the show! She said it was the most creative, and most beautiful example of lots of art in one room she had ever seen in her life – she ‘bloody’ loved it”
